The Unrelenting Love of God

The journey of faith is not always a straightforward one. We don’t always end up believing in God right away, sometimes it takes countless times of hearing the gospel preached to us again and again. Even if our minds have understood, we don’t believe it in our hearts. There are cases where we are knowledge seekers, we tend to occupy our minds with things too great for us to understand. We are not like David in Psalm 131 who said:

O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;

my eyes are not raised too high;

I do not occupy myself with things

too great and too marvelous for me.

There’s nothing wrong with questioning and seeking answers in itself, as it is in our nature to search for explanations of things, but unless the Lord works in our hearts to give us humility, our searching will be endless. Nothing is remarkable in only believing what the eyes can see.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

  • Hebrews 11:1

The Unsuccessful Quest

In the clip is the continuation of Taylor’s story. This time it was during his encounter with God, the undeniable presence of the Holy Spirit, an experience that left him overwhelmed and curious. Like many people who encounter something inexplicable, he went into "research mode," seeking definitive proof of God's existence and the truth behind their experience. Turning to historical texts, writings outside of the Bible, and other sources in an attempt to find irrefutable proof of God's existence. This struggle for concrete evidence is not uncommon.

However, the search was not entirely successful. He realized that he was looking for answers to questions that could not be answered through conventional means. And instead of trying to build his faith on things unseen, he was merely seeking knowledge of things he could see.

Interestingly, he had already experienced something powerful and real, which they later recognized as the Holy Spirit. This experience, though real and undeniable, was not enough to solidify their faith at the time. Instead, it led them to seek further evidence, a common response for those grappling with their beliefs.

God’s Relentless Pursuit of Us

Our understanding of the past can change dramatically when viewed through the lens of faith. In retrospect, he now realized that it was the presence of the Holy Spirit in that pivotal moment. Looking back at his life, Taylor realized that during a tumultuous time when he seems to be out of control, God has been with him all throughout. Despite his attempts to distance themselves from God, He had never left their side. He wouldn’t be where he is today had it not been for God watching over him, protecting him and leading him to Himself. His life is not a product of mere coincidences, but of the hand of the Almighty and loving God.

This story serves as a powerful testament to the unconditional love and protection that God provides to those whom He predestined and called to believe in Him. No matter how dark our lives may be, how lost or broken we are, we are not so far off that the grace of God cannot reach us.

Indeed, we have nothing to boast about in our salvation. Salvation is purely the grace of God and from God. And God alone should get the glory. Though in our sinfulness, we will never choose God, He chose to show grace to us. He draws us to Himself, quickened our hearts to believe and made our spirit come alive in Christ. In Christ, it is God’s delight to shower us with His unrelenting love and unending grace.

We may say to God, “I’m done with you”, but God - knowing that He is our highest, ultimate good, will never give us up. God is faithful even when we are not.
